The Iranian and Turkmenistan projects have been in a state of negotiation for sometime, with varying levels of progress. Pakistan and India who could be the beneficiaries of these gas pipeline projects are energy deficit at present. Immediate and medium term needs can also be met by importing LNG. Pakistan has already started working on a 3.5 mpta LNG project, the capacity of which would be doubled by 2012.
